TIL There is a subreddit called RateMyTortilla to rate one’s Spanish tortilla*.
- basically an egg, potato, and onion omelette. One cooks thinly-sliced potato and onion low and slow in olive oil, strains, cools, combines with eggs, cooks low and slow, flips, and finishes. Yum.
TIL: “roller coaster” in Russian “американские горки” (“Amerikanskiye gorki”) translates literally to “American hills”.
It’s pretty much the opposite of the fascinating origin of “roller coaster” in Spanish, which is “montaña rusa” or “Russian mountain.”
